Use case

Proxies for Price Monitoring

Track competitor prices, stock and promotions across retailers and regions, on a schedule, without the crawler getting blocked or served a different price than real shoppers. Datacenter for open sites, residential for protected retailers, unlimited bandwidth for catalogues checked every hour.

Price Monitoring, from the inside

Three things worth knowing about how price monitoring actually works on this network, and what each one looks like from the inside.

Match

The right IP for the retailer

Datacenter where a retailer doesn't block cloud ranges, residential once it does, and unlimited proxies when the catalogue is big and the schedule is tight.

Scale

Hourly runs at a flat daily price

Unlimited proxies don't meter gigabytes or connections, so re-checking a catalogue every hour costs the same as checking it once a day.

Health

The price a local shopper sees

Retailers price by region. Country, state and city targeting let each market be checked from inside it, so the number you record is the one its shoppers pay.

How it works

Three steps, start to finish

1

Match the proxy to the retailer

Datacenter is fastest and cheapest where a retailer doesn't block cloud ranges. Residential once it does. Unlimited when a large catalogue is checked so often that per-GB billing becomes the main cost.

Check each region's price

Target the country, state or city of each storefront so regional pricing, shipping and stock come back as local shoppers see them.

Rotate or hold a session

A new IP per request for broad crawls, or a sticky session for anything that needs to stay logged in or paginate as one identity — the same toggle on every product.

Price Monitoring, explained

What price monitoring involves

Price monitoring is collecting competitors' and resellers' prices, stock levels, shipping costs and promotions on a schedule, then comparing them with your own. Retailers use it for repricing, brands use it to enforce minimum advertised prices, and analysts use it to track the market. The data is only useful if it is complete, current and accurate — which is where collection usually breaks.

Large retailers rate-limit and block automated traffic, and many show different prices by region, by delivery address or to visitors they've flagged as bots. A crawler that gets blocked misses products; one that gets a bot-specific page records the wrong price.

Choosing the proxy type

Start with datacenter proxies where a retailer allows them: they are the fastest and cheapest per request, and our datacenter ranges are owned subnets rotated at the network level. Move to residential proxies for retailers that challenge cloud traffic — real household IPs that look like the shoppers the site is built for, with city targeting to record regional prices.

Frequency changes the economics. A full catalogue re-checked every hour moves a lot of data, and per-GB billing grows with every run. Unlimited proxies are priced per day with no bandwidth meter and unmetered concurrency, so a tighter schedule doesn't raise the bill.

Getting accurate prices

Check each market from inside it: target the country, state or city whose price you want, and keep currency and language settings consistent with it. Rotate a new IP per product page for broad catalogue runs, and hold a sticky session when a price only appears after a sequence of steps, such as choosing a delivery location or adding to basket.

Spread requests over the run rather than firing the whole catalogue at once, and record the exit location and time with every price so outliers can be traced to the market that produced them.

Proxies, scraper or data feed?

Proxies are the network layer: you run the scraper — your own code or a price-monitoring tool that accepts proxies — and pay for traffic. SerpProxies sells proxies; we don't sell ready-made price datasets or a scraping API. If you already run a scraper or a monitoring tool, proxies are usually the cheapest way to make it reliable at scale.

Check each retailer's terms for automated access, and keep request rates reasonable. Our acceptable use policy sets out what the network may and may not be used for.

Datacenter proxies for retailers that don't block cloud traffic — they're fastest and cheapest. Residential proxies for retailers that do, and for recording region-specific prices. Unlimited proxies when a large catalogue is checked so often that per-GB billing becomes the main cost.

Target the country, state or city of each storefront. Retailers often price by region and delivery location, so checking from inside each market records the price its shoppers actually pay.

On per-GB billing, frequency multiplies traffic. Unlimited proxies are priced per day with no bandwidth meter and unmetered concurrency, so an hourly schedule costs the same as a daily one.

No. SerpProxies is the proxy network your scraper or price-monitoring tool runs through. Anything that accepts an HTTP(S) or SOCKS5 proxy works.

Only for tasks that need to stay logged in or paginate as one identity — hold an IP for a session. For broad, stateless work, rotate a new IP per request instead; both are one setting on any product.
